Cafe El Zapote was established in Ames, IA with the sole purpose to support farming communities in Honduras. The men and women of El Zapote, are hard-working individuals hoping to support their families in a broken-down economy. Our organization is implementing progressive change within the community that will eventually be reflected in the economy. By providing a high market for the coffee produced by the farmers of El Zapote, we are inducing positive change. We practice direct trade as a way to maximize sustainability and to maintain a good relationship with the El Zapote Farmers.

We seek help through many avenues. The first way is to understand our organization's motives, and how we help the communities in Honduras. The second way is to purchase a bag of coffee.  By purchasing Cafe El Zapote coffee you’re able to taste the dedication and perseverance that goes into crafting a beautiful bean. By being on this website you’re already taking the first step to combat the financial instability of Honduras. The impact we make is like a coffee bean, small, but once planted, you’re able to see the beauty of the work that went into growing something bigger than yourself.
